We are thrilled to have this opportunity to open a business in the town of Watrous, Saskatchewan, as our families both have deep roots in this town, and we plan to plant our roots here as well. This dream came to us after working in the salon and spa industry for a combined 15 years of experience. Let us introduce ourselves!

Laura woiden, owner and esthetician

Laura Woiden was born and raised in Watrous, Saskatchewan. Laura has been an Esthetician and Make-up Artist for more than ten years, and brings with her an immense knowledge of the industry as both a professional, and a small business owner. A well-known name in Watrous, Laura has been offering services in her home, specializing in Pedicures, Waxing, and Make-Up - proudly holding the nickname “Waxy Woiden”!

Laura began her career as an Esthetician by attending school at MC College in 2010. Laura successfully completed her Esthetician license in August of 2010, graduating with the Frank Cairo award “given to graduates who best represent the qualities of commitment, integrity, and respect".”

Laura chose to enter the beauty industry because of her experience growing up with Trichotillomania - she wanted to enter this industry to reach out and help others feel their best about themselves, whether they are going through this specific condition, or any other circumstance that may affect self-esteem and body image.

There is power in self-care, and we look forward to pampering our guests and ensuring everyone feels their best both physically, and mentally after leaving our spa.

jadi engele, Owner
and esthetics service provider

Jadi Engele was born and raised in Regina, but has always had her family roots in Watrous. Jadi moved to the Watrous area in 2019 to be with her fiancé, Brennan, and to begin working on her spa dream with Laura. Jadi has a background in operations management and sales from her time at The Style Academy, which brought with it a lot of experience and understanding of salon ownership and effective management. During Jadi’s time with The Style Academy, she had the opportunity to help grow future industry professionals in programs such as Hairstyling, Make-Up Artistry, Nails, Esthetics, and other various certificate programs. Jadi has learned a lot about the salon and spa industry in this role, and she fell in love with its flexibility and opportunity for growth both as a business, and as a professional. Even before The Style Academy, Jadi’s practical experience in the beauty industry started with Eyelash Extensions. She has been an Eyelash Extension Technician for close to seven years now, and a certified Bella Lash Educator for over four years. From this education, she has been passionate about learning more, and was inspired to work to complete the Esthetician: Skin Care Technician certification, recognized by the Government of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Skills & Trades. With these skills and knowledge, Jadi plans on fully immersing herself in this business as an esthetician, and as a salon owner. She wants to work with a (future) team of professionals to grow them in personal development, and in turn, grow our community.

kara ruether, 306 hair lounge

Kara’s love for hair and makeup began at a young age while growing up in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, competing in dance competitions for 16 years.
Kara was always the go-to girl for any dancers or dance moms who wanted help in the beauty department. Perhaps this is why one of Kara’s favourite services is updos and specialty styling!

Officially starting her career 5 years ago, Kara finished MC College in the summer of 2017 as an award-winning graduate. She also completed her Certified Spa Gel Nail Technician Course! The most recent accomplishment in Kara’s career was completing her Journeyperson certification in the trade of Hairstyling in January 2021.

Kara has been grateful to spend the past four years of her career working alongside and learning from a team of stylists at an Aveda Concept Salon in Saskatoon.

She makes sure to attend classes regularly to keep her skills up to date and stay current in the ever-changing beauty industry. Education opportunities have included men’s cutting classes, women’s cutting classes, hair extensions and many styling classes. These opportunities even led Kara to attend an educational event in Minneapolis, MN.

“Hair is the accessory that you can never take off, that’s why I strive for perfection and keeping the guests in my chair happy”.

Kara’s ultimate goal is to accentuate each guest’s natural beauty and to help them to feel more comfortable in their own skin.

Kara is extremely excited about the opportunity to be part of the community of Watrous, as well as to start with a new team of beauty professionals in the stunning and relaxing atmosphere of 306 Day Spa.

jamie thoner, rn

Jamie Thoner lives near Young with her husband, Justin, and three daughters. Jamie has been a Registered Nurse for 8 years, and currently focuses much of her time seeing foot care patients in Watrous and surrounding communities.

Jamie moved to the area after meeting her husband, and began working at the Manitou Lodge as a Registered Nurse. Jamie quickly realized the importance of, and need for, specialized foot care during her work at the lodge, and decided to take steps to fulfill this need in the community.

“After speaking with members of the community, I realized there was a huge need for advanced foot care for diabetics and those suffering from other foot related issues such as calluses, corns, thickened nails and ingrown nails.” Jamie looked into additional education to compliment her experience as a registered nurse, and discovered an advanced foot care course offered by Heel Your Sole Foot Care in Moose Jaw, and enrolled in the program. Jamie completed the course in April of 2018 and began offering services in May of that year. Since then, Jamie has built her foot care clientele to over 100 clients for various foot care needs. Jamie services three different nursing homes to provide foot care, as well as travels to several different communities to help those in need of advanced foot care services.

“As a member of the Watrous community, I am very excited to offer advanced foot care services at 306 Day Spa, ensuring that clients still get to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the spa.”
